The albums you own, the CDs you copy and New Zealand radio, in a Music tab beside your rooms. Like Plex for your music, starting on the Mac you already have. Free.

What you get

  • The albums you own

    MP3, FLAC, AAC and the rest, with their covers, sorted by album and artist. Copied CDs join in by themselves.

  • iCloud and the Music app

    On a Mac it finds iCloud Drive and the Music app, brings down songs still in iCloud, and your Music app playlists come across by themselves.

  • DJ mode and a USB stick for the decks

    Two decks with platters, sync and your DJ controller on a computer. Then put your playlists on a USB stick that Pioneer DJ players read.

  • New Zealand radio

    RNZ first, then the stations near you, live.

  • On the phone, lock screen and all

    The player follows you round the app, and the lock screen and headphone buttons work.

  • On the TV, from the remote

    Beyond™ TV finds your music on the Wi-Fi and a Music button appears on its home screen. Arrows, OK and Back drive it.

Start here

Set it up on a Mac

About five minutes. The Mac keeps the music; every phone, computer and TV in the house plays it while the Mac is on.

  1. Download Beyond™ Music

    Download for Mac, then open the zip in your Downloads.

  2. Open it

    In the mac folder, right-click Beyond Music and press Open (the first time only; after that a double-click does it). It gets itself ready, which takes a few minutes.

  3. Point it at your music

    It asks where your music is: your Music folder, or a USB drive. From then on it starts by itself whenever the Mac does, and shows the Mac's address.

  4. Open the Music tab

    In Beyond™ Home, go to Settings, Music, type the Mac's address and press Save. Your albums appear under Music.

iCloud Drive
Press iCloud Drive under Where your music and videos are. Songs still in iCloud come down to the Mac by themselves and join in a few minutes later. Songs from an Apple Music subscription are locked to Apple's apps, so they're counted but can't play here.
Your Music app playlists
Press Music app under Where your music and videos are. Then in the Music app go to Music, Settings, Files and tick Share Library XML with other applications. Your playlists come across each time it looks for new music. Change them in the Music app and they change here.
A USB stick for DJ decks
Make a playlist, plug a USB stick into the Mac, then under A USB stick for DJ decks tick the playlists and press Copy to the stick. Eject it and plug it into Pioneer DJ players. Waveforms and beat grids aren't on the stick yet. DJ mode itself is DJ mode in the menu, on a computer.

On your phone

The Beyond™ Home iPhone app finds the box on your home Wi-Fi and shows a code. Type it on the box under Settings, TVs and phones, once. Then your rooms, the remote and your music are in your pocket anywhere in the house. Press Keep on this phone on an album and it plays away from home too: in the car, at school pick-up, anywhere.

Coming to TestFlight

Beyond™ Music is free and open source (GPL-3.0). Radio stations come from the free Radio Browser directory and stream from each station's own site. Not affiliated with Apple, Plex or any station named here.
